Dry Eye Disease

Barnard Levit now provides a full diagnostic protocol and treatment for Dry Eye Disease.

  • Our TearScience Lab includes an assessment of Tear Film Osmolarity, Lipid Layer thickness and quality, and Meibomian Gland function and integrity.

  • Our LipiView system is a sophisticated device to enable the diagnosis of Dry Eye caused by Meibomian Gland Deficiency (MGD).

  • Patients with MGD can be treated with a range of therapies, including hot compresses, eye-drops and specific oral antibiotics. Some patients do not obtain relief from these methods, to whom we might suggest LipiFlow treatment.

Treatment for Dry Eye

LipiFlow provides a direct, thermally controlled heat massage to the inner eyelid surface. The calculated temperature (42.5º) necessary to target the solidified oils, facilitates the release of secretions from the obstructed glands, to improve the lipid layer and relieve the symptoms of Dry Eye.
